Hello everyone! I just wanted to share with you the Advent Calender that I just completed. I bought it last year before Christmas believing that I would finish it and use it last year... That didn't happen. I didn't even take it out of the packaging. Which is probably a good thing because I would have lost all the pieces. I wanted to get it done and use it this year, my boys are very excited for Christmas this year and I thought this would be a fun way to help the count down the days. Not sure what to put in them yet but I'm just glad I finished decorating it!
First, after I assembled all of the boxes and calendar frame I painted the exposed areas. For the frame I pained it an off white and the boxes and numbers are painted gold... Just on the rim where the papers wouldn't cover them.
I used a patterned paper from Kaiser Crafts "Vintage Christmas" 12x12 paper pad, cut it down to cover the inside and used Scor-tape to hold it in place.
I chose 6 patterned papers from last year's Authentique "Festive" 6x6 collection, cut them down to
1 1/2", folded it in half just pinching one of the edges to get a center point and cut a half circle using a 3/4" circle punch. it wasn't a perfect match but pretty close. I wasn't about to hand cut all the notches myself...
I distressed the top and bottom edge of the paper in Antique Linen, I thought it matched the gold paint the best and added a nice subtle detail
I then wrapped the paper around the box to fold the corners in and then creased them to make them 90 degree angles.
Next I used some quick dry adhesive to the paper and smoothed it over the box making sure to match up the half circle and not going over the top of the box
then I added glue to the number and centered it on the front of the box
I'd say that the whole process took about 5 hours. It took me two days to finish but if I didn't have so many little helpers with me I could have done it in an afternoon! I hope you enjoy and go out and make one for your home!
